Map titled "The Bishopric and Citie of Durham" by John Speed and "to be sold by John Sudbury and Georg Humble" circa 1620's. Map was part of Speeds atlas "Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine". Sheet shows of map of County Durham, with an inset of the city of Durham and a tableau and text cartouche (at lower right) explaining the battle of Neville's Croft that was fought 1346. Framed sheet measures 15.25" x 20" (sight) and is housed in frame measuring 22.5" x 27.25". Map exhibits hand coloring, a vertical fold at center, an archival repair at lower right border and some light toning. Ex. Philadelphia Print Shop.
