Live auction by Alderfer Auction

Starts Nov 14, 2024 10:00 AM EST

This auction showcases a remarkable collection of mid-century modern furniture and art, featuring pieces from renowned designers and artists of the 20th century. The furniture selection includes iconic designs from Charles and Ray Eames, Danish modern masters, and New Hope craftsmen. A highlight of the auction includes unique pieces from New Hope, Pennsylvania craftsman Gino Russo. A hand-crafted dining table with a glass top on a sculpted base, accompanied by high ladderback chairs with rope seats, demonstrates Russo's skill in blending traditional techniques with modern aesthetics. A custom-made sideboard and hutch, signed and dated by Russo, offers insight into his personal design philosophy. The auction also offers a Charles and Ray Eames lounge chair and ottoman for Herman Miller, featuring molded rosewood shells and black leather upholstery. This classic piece, dating from the 1960s, exemplifies the Eames' innovative approach to comfort and style. Danish modern furniture is well-represented, with pieces from notable designers such as Niels Moller, Johannes Andersen, and Henning Kjaernulf. A teak extending dining table by Niels Moller for Gudme Mobelfabrik showcases the clean lines and functional elegance typical of Danish design. Complementing the table are dining chairs by Johannes Andersen for Uldum Mobelfabrik, featuring sculptural forms and upholstered seats. Art enthusiasts will find a diverse selection of works, including paintings, prints, and sculptures. Notable artists featured include Romain de Tirtoff (Erté), known for his Art Deco fashion illustrations, and Sterling Boyd Strauser, represented by an oil painting titled "Table Top Arrangement" from 1989. Contemporary artists are also present, with works by Justin Gaffrey and Jim Bloom adding a modern touch to the collection. A series of Sonambient sculptures by Val Bertoia, son of the renowned Harry Bertoia, showcases the continuation of innovative sound sculpture into the 21st century. The auction also includes decorative arts, such as Rosenthal porcelain designed by Bjorn Wiinblad and crystal bowls from the Versace "Medusa Lumiere" collection. These pieces add a touch of luxury and refinement to the mid-century aesthetic. For collectors of memorabilia, the auction offers a unique collection of Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe photographs, including rare images from the 1950s, along with signed books and limited edition prints . This auction presents an opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to acquire pieces that represent the best of mid-century design and art, from iconic furniture to unique artworks and decorative objects.
