Colt Model 1849 Pocket revolver bearing the serial #71400 (matching serial numbers) in .31 caliber percussion. Pistol presents a 5" octagonal barrel. Top of barrel present two-line stamping"ADDRESS SAML COLT, NEW YORK CITY". with left side of frame stamped "COLTS/PATENT in two lines. The cylinder is stamped"COLTS PATENT No" followed by serial number and is engraved with a stagecoach robbery scene. Serial number indicates that the pistol was manufactured in 1853. Pistol exhibits much of its bluing and case hardening and retains much of its silver plating on the trigger guard and backstrap. Pistol exhibits extremely light abrasions to wood grips and some wear with some silvering loss to backstrap. Frame exhibits some slight dents near wedge and some light pitting near barrel muzzle. Gun would rate fine to excellent in NRA antique firearms standards. Provenance: Gary S. Wolfer Collection
