Colt Model 1849 pocket"Wells Fargo" type revolver bearing the serial #140357 (matching serial numbers) in .31 caliber percussion. Pistol presents a 3" octagonal barrel lacking loading lever. Top of barrel presents two-line stamping"ADDRESS SAML COLT, NEW YORK CITY". with left side of frame stamped "COLTS/PATENT in two lines. The cylinder is stamped"COLTS PATENT No" followed by serial number and is engraved with a strong stagecoach robbery scene. Serial number indicates that the pistol was manufactured in 1858. Pistol exhibits much of its bluing and case hardening with fine toning to brass. Pistol exhibits extremely light abrasions to wood grips and some wear to varnish at butt. Gun would rate fine to excellent in NRA antique firearms standards. Provenance: Gary S. Wolfer Collection
