United States militia officer's sword (c.1840-1860) measuring 38" (blade 31.5") presenting mother of pearl grip, Roman helmet pommel and chain knucklebow. Sword manufactured by Ames of Chicopee, Massachusetts. Sword presents acid etched blade with floral design. Ricasso of sword etched with "Ames Mfg. Co, Chicopee, Mass." with scabbard also marked with like information. Grip presents cast clamshell guard with high-relief spread-wing eagle Sword in excellent condition and housed in gilt brass scabbard.
