Civil War Burnside (4th Model) carbine in .54 cal with 21" round barrel. Carbine is serial numbered"8510". Top of the breech is stamped in 2 lines"BURNSIDE PATENT / MARCH 25TH 1856". The lockplate behind the hammer is stamped in 2 lines"BURNSIDE RIFLE CO. / PROVIDENCE, R.I.". Carbine exhibits good bore, dirty with slight corrosion near breach end. Metal exhibits graying with surface pitting to action and buttplate. Lock is missing part and screw is missing from forestock. Wood exhibits abrasions and gouges with some chipping losses near barrel wood interface.
