Richardson & Overman-Gallager carbine in .52 cal Spencer with 22.25" round barrel. Side plate of frame stamped in 3 lines"MANUFACTURED BY / RICHARD & OVERMAN / PHILADA" with followed by serial number"22476". Also stamped on frame side in two lines is"GALLAGER'S PATENT / JULY 17th 1860". The top of the barrel has a "J.M.D" inspector's mark. Left side of stock present two ordnance inspector's cartouches"AJN" and"WHB" (William H. Barber). Carbine metal surface exhibits a significant amount of the original bluing and case hardening with wood in excellent condition with minimal abrasions and wear.
